Before you call: note the species, age, diet, enclosure setup (heat, UVB lighting, humidity, substrate) and when the symptoms started. With reptiles, the setup is often part of the diagnosis.

  • Ferrets and unusual exotic mammals by appointment discussion

Warning signs in reptiles

Reptiles hide illness well, so problems are often advanced by the time they show. Call if your reptile stops eating for longer than usual, is lethargic or cold to the touch, breathes with its mouth open, has swollen or closed eyes, discharge from the nose or mouth, a soft or damaged shell, stuck shed, swelling, wounds or burns from a heat source.

Warning signs in rabbits and small mammals

A rabbit or guinea pig that stops eating or stops passing droppings needs advice the same day; these animals can deteriorate within hours. Other reasons to call: drooling, a hunched posture, a head tilt, laboured breathing, diarrhoea or a sudden change in behaviour.

Why New Veterinary Clinic

Many clinics focus on cats and dogs and refer exotics elsewhere. Dr. Faisal has treated reptiles, birds and exotic animals in Abu Dhabi for over 45 years, so owners get practical judgement from someone who has seen these species before.

Reptile vet FAQ

Do you treat bearded dragons and other lizards?

Yes. Call with the species, age, diet, enclosure setup (heat, UVB lighting, substrate) and symptoms so the clinic can advise the safest next step.

Do you see tortoises and turtles?

Yes. Bring any notes on diet, basking temperature, water quality and recent changes. Shell, eye and appetite problems are common reasons to call.

Do you treat snakes?
